THANK YOU Sun Microsystems, IBM, Adobe, JBoss, JetBrains, Logica, Oracle,OW2 Consortium, RealDolmen, Azul Systems, Birt Exchange, CapGemini, dynaTrace, EDS, Hippo, Intersystems, Kaazing, Microsoft, SpringSource, Terracotta, XPlore Group, ZeroTurnaround, Coverity, ACA IT Solutions, Atlassian, Atos Origin, Cegeka, Ciber, De Post, ILOG, Infragistics, Ordina, Usginnotiv, Altran, Amplexor, Caucho, CSC, Eclipse, Intland Software, Ivar Jacobson International, JasperSoft, Orqua, Vici consulting.   See you all next week.

  Speaker questions and discussion forum

We're always searching to improve your conference experience, so this year Devoxx will be using Confetto to allow attendees to interact with each other.

At first Confetto looks like just another chat tool, but actually it's much more.  Confetto allows users to make comments about conference sessions and post questions about the session.  If you see a question someone else has asked and you also have the same questions then, you can vote up the existing question.

Confetto also contains a realtime tag cloud from all "recent" text comments and questions entered in Confetto. Clicking on any tag cloud tag will open all sessions in Confetto that an attendee has recently typed the selected tag.  Finally confetto contains a tab that shows all messages typed in Confetto at Devoxx.

So login to our wiki and view a presentation abstract where you can post your questions in advance.  Hopefully the speakers will have some time before, during or after their talk to answer them!

  Blogs and Pictures tagging

If you're planning to publish pictures and/or blog about Devoxx, then please make sure you tag your content with either "devoxx" or "devoxx08". This way we can assemble your content on our home page.

JETBRAINS

Did you know that IntelliJ IDEA's Scala plugin is written almost entirely in Scala, and significant parts of the Ruby plugin run under JRuby?

In developing support for the various languages of the JVM environment (Java, Ruby, Groovy, Python, and Scala) in IntelliJ IDEA, we used those very languages. That will be the focus of our presentation on Cross-Language Development in JVM environment at Devoxx 2008.

We'll describe our experience extending a large Java application with those languages, the problems we've faced, and the benefits we've achieved. We'll also demonstrate the cross-language development features of IntelliJ IDEA, including cross-language navigation, refactoring and cross-compilation.

We hope that our experience will let you decide whether to start using one of these JVM-based languages in your own project.

Capgemini

Java technology at a top consultancy company

If you've been in Belgium recently, you can hardly have missed the ads about the INGAuto.be car insurance. What you won't hear in the commercials is that Capgemini consultants have strongly assisted ING in building the IBM Websphere

In another recent project, Capgemini assisted Euroclear with their new enterprise web portal, based on the powerful IBM Websphere Portal software.

As you can see, Java technology is very important for Capgemini's business, and a lot of our consultants are working with Java technology, in roles varying from development to enterprise architecture.

Another thing which is evident in the two projects cited above, is our focus on IBM Websphere technology. In fact, Capgemini's global alliance with IBM is one of Capgemini's strong points in relation to Java technology. With its large portfolio of Websphere technology and software, IBM is an important player in enterprise Java installations, and at Capgemini we very
much appreciate our preferential relationship.

We are constantly looking for motivated professionals, both experienced and starting, to strengthen our Java teams. Are you interested in putting your Java expertise to good use? Interested in working for a top technology company that has been elected four times in a row "Top Employer Belgium" by crf.com? Then don't hesitate to come and see us at Devoxx 2008!

Don't forget to bring your cv. Or send it to sylvie.erb@capgemini.com.
