How to create a RIA as a POJD (plain old Java developer)

Abstract

Subtitle: Or how to use GWT, Grails and Cloud-Hosting to create the next killer web-app

With the Web 2.0 hype all kinds of languages and frameworks pop up. But as a Java developer it is still a challenge to pick the right tools and get a Rich Internet Application up and running without spending to much time and money. In this experience report I would like to share my experiences on this task. I'll present the technology stack and services I've used and show why they are especially useful for a normal Java developer.

Disclaimer: Since this talk wants to present a real running example and not a theoretical mind experiment, this talk contains commercial products like a hosting service. I am not affiliated or any other way connected to these products.
The result of my experience is a web application I've been thinking about for a while: http://wishzettel.com. The basic idea is to enable collaborative granting of wishes.
